Work up an appetite before you visit SLOWS, named one of the best barbeque joints in America! This trendy hotspot was once an 1800’s dilapidated building that was rehabbed in 2005 to help revitalize Detroit, bring good food to the area and draw folks to the city.
Once you step in you will feel the warmth of the friendly crowd and will be drawn to quickly choose your dish when you take a gander at the Texas Style Beef Briskets, Carolina Style Pulled Pork, and St. Louis Spareribs being served to the surrounding tables. If you are a non-meat eater, don’t fret! There are plenty of choices like barbeque sauce glazed Alaskan Sockeye Salmon and a delicious tempura style Catfish served with a Creole Remoulade.
My favorites are the sides! The Baked Beans, Mac-N-Cheese, and the Waffle Fries with Hoffman’s Cheddar are a must! If you want the real barbeque experience and don’t mind getting your hands dirty, the award winning signature Dry Rubbed Baby Back Ribs are your best bet. They are smoked and slow cooked with a blend of 13 spices until fork tender! For all of you barbeque sauce lovers, sitting at each table are a selection of SLOWS very own signature sauces. I recommend the Apple and the Spicy!
Before you make plans to hit the road for this tasty barbecue experience, reservations for 6 people or more are accepted, you may be surprised by the 3-month wait but don’t be discouraged. You can get a seat at the bar and have a better chance of getting a table if you walk in on a weekday, especially if the weather allows for seating on the outside patio. Better yet, for no wait at all try SLOWS TO GO!
